Human-Centered Research & UX Storytelling for Mission-Driven Digital Platforms and Experiences
Services

At Theory–Praxis Collective, our services aren’t just a list of deliverables.Every offering is shaped by a belief that good design isn’t just about usability or conversion rates. It’s about understanding people in context, attending to emotion, and designing with care, not just speed. This means:We listen to what’s lived, not just what’s said.
Our research methods are ethnographic, embodied, and relational. We don't just study users . We observe systems, histories, and the emotional undercurrents of experience. We treat insight as a narrative, not just a nugget.
Translation is part of the magic. We don’t hand over raw data; we build meaning through story, making complexity legible and actionable for teams, funders, and communities. We hold space for reflection, repair, and imagination.
Whether it's coaching, facilitation, or method design, we enable teams to pause, reflect, and ask better questions. Because sustainable design starts with self-awareness, not just sprints. These services were born from lived tension - as a researcher, a survivor, a systems thinker in tech spaces that often flatten nuance. Theory–Praxis is the practice of refusing that flattening. Of building alternatives that honor care, criticality, and slow thinking.Whether you’re seeking UX research, story-rich synthesis, or strategic enablement, you’re not just hiring a service. You’re entering a practice that’s grounded, human, and fiercely thoughtful.
ABOUT THEORY-PRAXIS COLLECTIVE
Founded by Tejaswini Joshi, PhD, Theory–Praxis Collective is an independent research practice grounded in ethnographic inquiry, reflexive analysis, and narrative storytelling. We collaborate with civic tech teams, mission-driven organizations, and design-forward partners to shape inclusive, human-centered digital platforms and experiences.Theory–Praxis is collaborative in spirit — envisioned not just as a solo consultancy, but as the foundation for a future LLC and collective model. Our practice brings together deep qualitative research, strategic insight, and creative synthesis to support systems that serve people with equity, care, and clarity.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Hi, I’m Tejaswini Joshi. I am a qualitative researcher, ethnographer, and writer with a PhD in Human-Computer Interaction. I founded Theory–Praxis Collective to bridge deep, reflective research with the real-world work of designing equitable technologies. My approach to UX research is creative and contextual, grounded in ethnographic inquiry and systems thinking. I study how people engage with digital infrastructures, public services, and emerging tech in ways that often elude surface-level data.I’m drawn to work that centers care, collaboration, and social impact. This collective is my way of making space for thoughtful research, honest reflection, and more human-centered design. Learn more
